Healthcare Insights from Data
There is a profusion of data in healthcare. Patient histories, vitals, radiology images, demographic data and so on. According to current estimates, around 2 to 25 exabytes of health data exists. This data can certainly be used to improve healthcare, for patients.
Data can be used for descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive purposes. There are multiple examples of data analytics, AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) and Natural Language techniques being used to gain insights and thus help doctors provide improved care to patients. There are several such examples that we can learn from. We can see how data is made ready and then processed to determine results for individual patients or for patient categories or for geographies. We can be inspired to find applicability in diverse areas of healthcare.
Is the potential that data offers, true or is it hype? Do the insights from data help Providers in their daily work or do they have to go out of their way to access the data? Are the insights clear or do they need experience in interpretation? What are the challenges and what can be improved?
